Mew Mew Power
In Mew Mew Power, Kikki is relatively the same, except when Kikki asks for a tip, Zoey responds with "Okay, don't do drugs and stay in school!"
The English adaptation of Kikki's intro episode implied that she is homeless,[but later 4Kids fixed the mistake by having the characters admit that they were wrong.
Personality
Pudding is a hyper, lively child that likes to act and put on performances. She usually refers to herself in the third person (i.e. "Pudding wants to play" instead of "I want to play") and puts "na no da" at the end of almost all her sentences in the Japanese manga and anime, as a sort of catchphrase. This phrase often used by playful characters, such as Hamtaro, and Sakuma Ryuichi from Gravitation (anime). The same with her younger sister, Heicha. At Café Mew Mew, Pudding performs tricks while being a waitress, and often breaks things because of this. Balancing on a big ball, fire breathing and dish spinning are only a few of her tricks.
Family
It may seem a little odd how Pudding puts on performances and quickly asks for a fee after she is done with the performance: it is because she needs to earn money to take care of her family after her mother's death and due to the fact that her father is on a pilgrimage to practice martial arts.
Pudding cares a lot for her family, treasures her memories of her mother and is very defensive of her mother's belongings. Pudding has four brothers and a sister, Hanacha, Chincha, Lucha, Honcha, and Heicha, and has a pet monkey named Ah-Nin (in the manga). Even though her mother has died, her father is never home, and she has to take care of her siblings and earn money for her family; nonetheless, she still retains her sweet and childish personality, most likely to cope with the responsibility and the stress. In the anime, Pudding is shown as caring very deeply for Heicha's teacher, because the teacher reminds Pudding of her deceased mother. When Pudding falls ill (in Episode 20), Heicha's teacher comes to look after her toward the end of the sickness, and Pudding asks her, "Could you pretend to be my mom for a while?" When the teacher agrees, Pudding rests her head on her newfound "mother"'s lap; she has such strong feelings of love and longing for her real mom that, after holding back for so long, she then dissolves into sobs.
Romanization
In the Japanese version of the manga, Pudding's name is written in katakana and in Chinese characters. When she is in Mew form, her name is written in katakana, and when she is "normal", her name is written in Chinese characters . This was most likely done so that she can hide her identity as Mew Pudding, and for emphasis, as it is common to write Japanese and Chinese words in katakana.Due to the difference being different writing systems, this was omitted in the English version of the manga, as English has only one writing system. Because of this, fans who have only seen the English version could find it odd how no one found out her identity. |
